Migration – Hijrah
The Great Migration has been part of the life of the traveler of the Love. It is the journey to the find the Beloved, the Deep Secret Love between God and Her creation. It is the journey to a promised land. It is the journey to live in freedom, respect and love. It is a journey of the hope for a full belly. It is the journey from chaos to peace.
My first trip to India forty years ago, I remember the view from the third class bus as we entered Rajasthan. The heat was unbearable. We were four to a seat that held comfortably two and a small child. The dust was so thick that it made its way into my teeth. I had to keep wetting my lips not to choke. From the window there was a seemingly endless stream of humanity walking with bullock carts, each cart loaded with the remains of a shanty home. I was witnessing the great migration of 1966. The hope for a full belly. Western Rajasthan was bone dry.
I knew about migration in every part of my cells. My grandmother Edith in 1900 walked out of the Russia in the midst of winter, fleeing the Cossacks who had tormented her childhood. The journey to live in freedom, respect and love. Her stories penetrated my being leaving a thirst that water could not quench. The thirst to mend a broken world; Tikkun Olam.
Each of our prophets and prophetess has made the migration of the Beloved. A journey to fulfill the order between God and Her creation. My childhood favorite was Moses. Carried by a river to safety. Carried by the Order to deliver His people to the Promised Land.
Now is the time of our migration of the Beloved. Mother Hilda taught us to be ready for Call. Opening our heart until the thirst became a fire that could only be sated by the Beloved that carries many names: Allah, Adonai, Eloheim, Krishna, Jehovah, Great Spirit, Brahman, the Great Mother... And sated with the fragrance of the Beloved we make the migration to bring Her message of the peace and the mercy to our world. May your New Year be the fulfillment of this journey.
Love,
